The core application scenario for dry fish feed production equipment is the production of "low-moisture, high-energy" feeds, especially suitable for pet snacks, sinking aquatic feeds, and specialty low-moisture feeds. In the pet food industry, when producing treats such as jerky and chew sticks, the raw materials are mostly dehydrated meat meal and grain flour (8%-12% moisture content). The frictional heat generated by the dry extruder allows the raw materials to quickly expand and form shapes, resulting in a finished product with a moisture content of ≤8%, eliminating the need for additional drying and directly reducing production costs. In the aquaculture industry, for sinking feeds of bottom-dwelling fish (such as loach and eel), the feed produced by the dry extruder has a high density, does not float, and has high hardness (40-50N), preventing rapid disintegration at the bottom. Suitable raw materials need to have low moisture and low fiber characteristics, such as fish meal, chicken meal, and corn flour, with a crude fiber content of ≤10%, otherwise insufficient expansion is likely.
Wet small fish feed pellet extruders, on the other hand, are more suitable for the production of "high-moisture, high-fiber" feeds and are the mainstream equipment for conventional fish feeds and pet compound feeds. When producing conventional aquatic feeds such as grass carp and bass, the raw materials often contain coarse fiber components (15%-20%) such as aquatic plant meal and alfalfa meal. Wet fish feed extruders soften the fiber structure by adding steam and water, ensuring uniform feed expansion and stable water resistance. In the pet food industry, when producing complete cat and dog food, fresh minced meat (20%-25% moisture) needs to be added. The moisture control system of a wet extruder can precisely balance the moisture content of the raw materials, avoiding problems such as soft/sticky or dry/hard finished products. It is suitable for a wider range of raw materials, including high-fiber plant materials, fresh meat, and wet-based raw materials such as distiller's grains, but has higher requirements for the impurity content of the raw materials (metal impurities ≤0.1mm) to avoid clogging the steam jet nozzle.
The choice of equipment for special scenarios must consider product characteristics: A wet floating fish feed machine must be used to produce floating fish feed, as the synergistic control of moisture and temperature creates a porous structure; a dry extruder is preferred for producing pet freeze-dried precursors to ensure a low-moisture base for subsequent freeze-drying processing.
